Economic activities The largest number of DFD members is engaged in economic activities. These organizations focus on supporting livelihood activities for poverty alleviation in countries of origin. They conduct Financial Literacy seminars to harness the potentials of migrant remittances for development. They also provide material and financial support for local communities to initiate livelihood projects, as well as establish linkages with microfinance institutions in home countries.
Women Empowering migrant women economically is the focus of the financial literacy training being conducted by Habagat among Filipino domestic workers, residents and retireables; likewise with the Ethiopians and Ghanaian women migrants in the Netherlands. Organizations Some of these organizations include: ENNOS (Ethiopian Migrant Network in the Netherlands), Migrant women Initiatives in Netherlands for Development (MIND), BASUG (Bangladesh Support Group), Habagat, BisDak, Stichting DIR (Ethiopia), Sankofa Foundation (Ghana), Iskaashi (Somalia), ASDA (Ghana), Afroeuro Foundation (Ghana), Ayni Bolivia, and Ropabu (Burundi).
