The Multicultual Women Peacemakers organized a conference in Burundi in cooperation with the Ministry for Human Rights and Women Affairs in Burundi, involving women from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bukuva region.
Around 150 women exchanged experiences and shared insights on peace-building in relation to UN Resolution 1325. The biggest delegation was from Congo with their 30 representatives while Rwanda had 8 women delegates. The Burundi participants included representatives of the parliament, NGOs, civil society organizations, the ethic minorities, religious groups, the army and the police.
The United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 which was passed unanimously on October 31, 2000 is the first resolution ever passed by the Security Council that specifically addresses the impact of war on women, and women's contributions to conflict resolution and sustainable peace.
